Subject: Sudden whistle, where does it come from?

My '99 9-3 FPT was behaving strangely yesterday. When I came to work yesterday, I noticed that I'm lacking turbo boost in higher rpms. Not much, but enough to notice it. Turbo meter needle went up to low red's in 3000-4000rpm like it has used to, but in higher rpms it dropped back to the middle of yellow area. Of course, that is not much, but I noticed it. I got a tip about the procedure to let Trionic readjust maximum boost, and I followed it. I took car to long uphill road, slowed down, switched to fourth gear, and accelerated on full throttle so that tachometer swept over 2000-4500rpm. In the middle of the procedure, boost dropped down to mid-yellow area, but few seconds later boost normalized back to yellow-red border. Since that boost has been ok, and cars runs normally. I guess procedure worked and this full throttle acceleration on uphill road gave enough time for trionic to readjust maximum boost. However, car started to whistle. It is constant frequency whistle that tends to get louder in spirited acceleration (high rpm, plenty of boost). However, you can also hear it if you drive steadily on flat road, about 4000rpm on tachometer. You won't be able to hear it if you drive nicely. You can't hear it when idling. So, what is this? Turbo bearing? Could it start suddenly, or does it start progressively? What does turbo problem sound like? Is it constant single frequency whistle that gets louder at boost, or does it's pitch change depending on rpm, or what? Or could this be a leak in one of the turbo system hoses? All help appreciated.
