I just did the same thing (bought a used car with no records), only with a 2000 9-3 CV w/65k miles. I knew it was against conventional wisdom to buy a used car without records, but it appeared very clean, fairly well maintained, and I got the thing for a song ($12k). Here's what I did: Look at the most involved maintenance schedule in the owners manual for that car. In my 9-3 it was the 60k mile maintenance. Assume it has not been done (probably has not anyway) and do all of it. Everything. That way you will have a "fresh starting point" and can plan your regular maiontenance from there on. If you do all of these service items yourself you will save around $400 compared to the dealer maintenance charges for the same service. > The car also has the common reverse problem... Sorry, I'm not familiar with that particular problem, but maybe someone with a 9-5 will chime in? It sounds like an inexpensive thing to have diagnosed at the stealership. Just leave specific instruction to ONLY diagnose until you authorize further repair. Fred W
