A manual boost control (what I think you saw at Eric's site, it seems
to be gone) does what the ECu upgrade does but in a much cruder way. 
I don't think there is any advantage to an MBC once you do the ECU
upgrade unless they took some shortcuts. What upgrade did you buy ?
