While this isn't likely to resolve the problem, you might start with low priced items, such as replacing the fuel filter if that hasn't been done lately. A leaking fuel injector (causing flooding of the cylinder and depressurization of the fuel system) or a weak fuel pump (less likely because you would likely experience problems driving at high speeds or when you are low on fuel) may also cause they symptoms you describe. Another component that might be faulty is the sensor that tells the fuel injection system to operate in the "engine warm up" mode. This makes the fuel mixture richer to prevent the engine from stalling as it is warming up to normal operating temperature. Now that I think about it, any of the fuel injection system components could also cause this problem, but then the MIL light (check engine) would illuminate in most cases. There are many possibilities, so additional testing would be needed. Walt Kienzle 1991 9000T
