Subject: Drop top repair

I've got a '94 Saab that is in need of a new top. I don't want to spend the $1000.00 & some change now to get it replaced. Does anyone have any ideas for a "band-aid" type fix I can do for now until I decide to spend the money? I'm not concerned about how it looks as I only drive it in fair weather. I was thinking of glueing some sort of waterproof fabric right over the existing top, roofing cement, whatever it takes to keep it from leaking. I just need to be able to put it down when I drive it.
