Subject: use of premium ULP instead of leaded replacement petrol B201 engine

Hello, Current fuel pricing here in Australia has seen prices hitting the A$1.10 per litre in recent weeks... LRP (lead replacement petrol) is usually the same price as PULP (premium unleaded petrol) but not always. With the current hikes in pricing I'm thinking about experimenting with my 1983 C900 by transitioning it from using only LRP to PULP to see if that will make any difference to the fuel economy and engine performance. The octane rating of LRP and PULP are about the same (at least here in NSW - other Australian states might do it differently) at around 95 to 97 RON. Normal ULP is around 90 as far as I'm aware. Are there any online FAQ's, etc. dealing with the issue of moving 900's fitted with B201 engines from using LRP to PULP? There will no doubt be some gotcha's since the engines weren't designed from the outset for running on non-leaded fuels... I'm going to buy some jerry cans and fill a couple with PULP and a couple with normal LRP so that I can gradually change the fuel mixture in the fuel tank and watch what happens over the course of the transition period. Since LRP is very limited in supply here (unlike in the ACT - Australian Capital Territory where Canberra is), I'd like to move the car to a fuel which will be around longer than LRP. In the ACT, a service station generally has as many LRP pumps as it does for PULP and LRP. Here in NSW, most service stations which actually have LRP only have it on one or maybe two pumps, with PULP and ULP pumps being predominant. I think the NSW state government has some legislation in place to restrict LRP availability to try and force older cars off the road. 8-) Regards, Craig. -- Craig's C900 Workshop - c900nospamon.nospam | Remember to Visit the Website - http://poison.nospam/~c900 | remove 'poison' If you're a Saab C900 enthusiast, join our Yahoo 'saab_c900' group and/or join our mailing list by visiting "http://nospam/mailman/listinfo/c900"
