Well diagnosed :o) The headlight failure warning module on the 9-3 suffers from exactly the same problem, and it causes one of the headlights to stop working. Those solder joints seem to be the only mechanical support for the PCB. Solder isn't renowned for it's mechanical strength... You're right about the resulting cracks being difficult to spot.
