Do like I did and throw it away. Put in a solid strand of wire that is at least the same wire size as the leads on your old diode. When it conducts, a diode is practically a short anyway. Are you sure that it was a diode? Mine had a temp rating on it so I interpreted that to mean it was a thermal fuse widget!!
