Trond...suggest you get this looked at fairly quickly. This happened on my '97 9000 CSE 2.3 LPT, and was accompanied by the engine stalling at junctions - something it has never done before or since. About 40 miles after the speedo stopped working I lost the ability to select gears. This was due to part of the speedo drive mechanism detaching itself and falling into the selector mechanism. Luckily I was covered by warranty, otherwise it would have cost me a LOT of money, as the gearbox had to come out! Correspondence with Saab led to an acknowledgement that this fault had been seen before and can be caused by overfilling the gearbox with oil and/or using unapproved additives. My car has been dealer serviced from new, so.... Anyway....good luck!
