The gear is attachec to the speedo sensor in the trans. There is one bolt that hold the clamp that retains the sensor. Remove the bolt and clamp and with a little effort you can twist out the sensor. Check the gear for wear. I does not take much. Earlier units had a white plastic gear. Replacement gears are black and supposedly last longer. Other possibilities would be a bad/broken drive gear. Trans has to be O/H to fix that one. Sensor is bad. Chuck up the bottom of the driven gear in a drill and spin it with key on. Speedo should work. Could be a speedo head, but very rare. Wiring problem always possible. Good luck, Steve
