I am in the USA...Baltimore Maryland The auto: 2000 Aero with HOT 2.3 l engine. please note this car is not badged as a 9-5 but, of course, is. I have spoken both to my local Saab dealer (and they are a large dealership by local standards of auto dealers) and Saab and the dealer says that they have not had a "sludge" case. Saab USA say that the problem is related to engine, lubricant , driving habits or usage (as always short trips are identified as worse than "highway driving". They "say" that engine design (tolerances) has been addressed as have the suppliers lubricant quality. I have always paid the premium and bought oil and filter from the dealer and will continue to do so. The dealer says that their approved lubricant type and manufactures have not changed for 'out of standard warranty' owners to qualify for the 200 k no time limit policy. Saab continues to say that the vehicle must have 'ground' to a non-re-start stop but the dealer says the will honor warranty if the engine sounds or acts abnormally.. .DO NOT WAIT FOR A FAILURE. This is all that I have. I hope that other potentials will post their experience.. Malcolm Mason
