Saab Breaks Global and European Sales Records in March
GM Internal Communications, April 7, 2006 .... Still flying high on the
overwhelmingly positive reaction to the unveiling of the
aviation-inspired Aero X car at the Geneva Motor Show, Saab is enjoying
even more success with its continued record-breaking sales pace, with
all-time volume records achieved in Europe and globally for the first
quarter of 2006.
Worldwide sales increased to 34,192 cars during the first three months
of the year, a 24 percent increase against the same period last year. In
Europe sales were up by 29 percent, led by all-time record volumes in
the UK, Spain and Belgium. March was the first time that Saab Great
Britain has ever sold more than 5,000 cars in one month.
The success didn't stop there, each of Saab's top ten markets posted
year-on-year sales increases during the first quarter of 2006.
"We now have products in market segments where Saab was not represented
before," said Saab Automobile Managing Director Jan-Ake Jonsson. "This
is reflected in our excellent start to the year, with growth in all
major markets including the United States. "The launch of exciting
concepts, such as the Saab Aero X at Geneva and the Saab BioPower
Hybrid, is also focusing a great deal of attention on the Saab brand. It
all means we can look forward to the rest of the year with great optimism."
