Turbo-X with XWD, 6 speed manual. Borbet XL 17" wheels. Conti Winter 225-50-17s. Excellent.
When I started it up the first snowy day it wanted to go out and play. (I know, it was really just a little higher revving in the colder ambient temperatures, or maybe just exhaust sound in more dense air, but it seemed like it wanted to go out and play).
Unplowed alley to the garage, foot of snow, melted, more snow, sleet, refroze. No big deal.
Snow & sleet on the highway. It handles better than a regular car on dry pavement (but not as good as a Turbo-X with the OEM Pirelli P-Zero Nero 235-45-18s). Other than ground clearance, its handles snow at least as good as my wife's Acura MDX. Only "problem" -- it's so good, I could use the front spoiler as a snowplow. The reality is, we're in the city, so it's the other traffic that is the limiting factor.
I trade stories with a coworker with an STI with Blizzaks, and even he respects the Turbo-X.
By the way, on my modified C900T convertible, I had performance summer tires which sucked in the winter. I actually got stuck in a Saab. Got Blizzaks and have not had a problem since (still have the '88).
Since 1981 I've had 900s stuck three times total. The other two were: (1) intentionally drove into a snowbank, but too far, in order to get access to a light plane; (2) parked in the woods in a blizzard, hot engine melted snow, froze overnight. Not bad for 2WD and >25 years.
