Looking at the 9-2x, but is the quality and fun there?

An old Saabnet member who's been hiding for some time, back with a few questions.
The wife wanted a new 9-3 last fall and we ordered one from the factory with everything we wanted. It arrived in January and she likes it a lot, for me I just can't find the right driving position, the interior seems busy and somewhat cheep and it just hasn't grown on me.
I'm looking for a new car for myself and the 9-2x and the Mini Cooper S are on my final list. I love the hach backs of them both but I'm worried that I'm not going to be impressed with the 9-2 as I was with the 9-3. How do people like the interiors, driving positions and power of the 9-2 compared to the 9-3?
Here's the big problem for me, I took a 2 year break from Saabs and got a Porsche Boxster, so now driving normal cars isn't as comfortable or as fullfilling.
I want to keep driving a fun car but not the Boxster (too small and expensive to maintain), does the 9-2x do it? I'd really like it if someone else with Boxster experience could compare as well. Thanks
