This all sounds pretty "normal", i.e. same as on my 9^3SS'07 here in Upper Valley (between NH and VT). Noise and flickering lights. Sometimes I switch TCS off in order to enjoy some more direct control, helped with years of experience of driving in various snow conditions etc.
As for ABS, this feels pretty much the same as ABS on all the other cars I had a chance to drive. Brakes may feel like thay become less efficient, but, in most cases, they will stop you more efficiently. Of course there are limits as to what ABS can do, given your tires, amount of snow, speed etc. There may be situations were ABS may not reduce your braking distance, but should be pretty rare.
