I use the Belkin Auto Kit (link below) which has a dock connector, a 12v power adapter, and a small amplifier to boost the line level iPod output. All you need is a short male-male mini-plug cable to connect the amp output to the input socket in the console/armrest. The amp output is adjustable.
Works just about perfectly, with the small exception that the amp picks up a bit of alternator hum that is detectable during soft musical passages. I would surmise that in a convertible the hum is imperceptible.
