Some dash lights stay on for a couple minutes after the key is removed. Off hand, I think it was the CD changer and the window switches on the door.
If lights are staying on longer than a couple minutes, take a pen and push on the bottom of the indent the key fits into. The floor of the key indent moves up and down to signal that the key has been inserted or removed. Perhaps it may be binding or stuck or the car just missed the signal.
