I rarely deal with used parts. I have seen none of the problems your dealership guy is talking about either. The only way I know to fry a module during SPS programming is to let the voltage drop below 10 volts. I have seen the P0601 a few times and as the cars age and lose value it would be nice to be able to install used parts. Personally, I have never lost a module during SPS. I use a 6 amp charger on the battery every time.
