My 2005 9-3 Aero CVT says to use Mobil 1 0W-40.... Whatever oil is used must meet the GM longlife specification GM-LL-A-025 for the oil monitor software to be correct. In the USA market the only commonly available oil that is certified to meet the GM longlife specification GM-LL-A-025 is Mobil 1 0W-40. On my 2005 9-3 Aero CVT, there is even a sticker in the engine compartment that says to use Mobil 1 0W-40.
There are other oils that meet the GM-LL-A-025 specification, mainly available in Europe. This include ELF, Motul, Fuchs, etc. Some of these are 0W-30 oils.
