Personally, I like Griot's Garage Leather care. Lexol is a good product as well. A good leather wipe will clean the surface, moisturize the leather, and provide some sunscreen protection to prevent the leather from drying out and becoming brittle.
Yes, some of the leather used in car seats have a plastic coating. The coating helps seal and protect the leather. Due to use and wear the coating develops micro-cracks and will allow some of the leather wipe to penetrate through to the leather.
