I believe it is related to the engine used in Buick La Crosse, etc., just smaller displacement. The design, by a GM global team led by Holden, is award winning. It's a good, smooth, tough engine. Most of the issues - heat, service access - come from squeezing it into the 9-3. I drove both, chose the V6, and still wouldn't switch. Mine's been very reliable. Besides, if I needed internal engine parts, I'd sell it before I tried to have it fixed.
