Anders, I think your original description of the connection was correct. The rubber hose was connected to a hard plastic connecter. What held the rubber hose in place to that connector was a permanent metal band that encircled the rubber hose. The hard plastic connector is held to the actually tank by the silver metallic pin. That pin was very difficult to get to. I think ideally one would pinch both sides of it at the same time to release it. But after looking at it, I think one could simply displace it entirely from the plastic connector using a small flat screwdriver. At any rate I simply pushed the metal ring away without (hopefully ) damaging the hose. I replaced that metal ring with a traditional screw type clamp.
BTW....i am almost certain that the original set up was for the top hoses to be crossed on my 2006 model......But you know better than me and if you think then make them not cross. Car runs fine as is...but the little top hoses get hot.....IMHO, the whole arrangment re the expansion tank so close to the turbo is pertty horrible.
Anders, thanks for helping me. Makes me feel great that I was able to do this myself with my being somewhat inexperienced....keith.
