The way I think of it -- recognizing it is marketing-speak -- is that X is most often used as shorthand for "cross" and sometimes for "experimental" like the X-15. So, Turbo-X sort of both; limited production, high performance, lowered suspension LSD but with what Haldex called Cross-Wheel drive, the next (4th?) generation of their All Wheel Drive. The computer controls made it much different than contemporary All Wheel Drive. But when Crossovers started to be used as auto terminology, the raised suspension 9-3X was a Crossover. I don't know about other manufacturers, but I suspect some of the other manufacturers "X" models have Haldex Cross-Wheel controlled All Wheel Drive. By the way, when we bought a Previa in 1990 it had All Wheel Drive which was less than 4-Wheel drive in that it was much more fuel efficient when you weren't driving the hardware for all four wheels, but without the equivalent of locked 4WD hubs, it wasn't for offroading. It was sort of 2 - 3 wheel drive.
