Hi All,
I have a 2003 9-3 linear (~130k miles) that has the rough idle when warm issue. The symptom is from a cold start with codes cleared, it starts fine, drives fine. If it is left to warm up at idle, when the temp indicator reaches 1/4 full scale the idle becomes very rough and wants to stall (sometimes does, will restart if it stalls). CEL comes on and limp home entered. If it reaches operating temp (1/2 of full scale on temp indicator), it will still be running rough.

If I shut down hot, clear codes and restart, it will start and drive fine and continue to do so while hot. Codes vary somewhat: I have seen P0606 and P0638 and some others (that didn't recur) as well as some N/A codes (I guess I need a better reader).

I have replaced the throttle body w/a cleaned, used unit (before I fully diagnosed when the rough idle was entered), cleaned the MAF, and checked plug gaps. I have also disconnected and reconnected (hoping some pin corrosion might be cleared enough to indicate source of problem) the H42-2 connector (coming in from the engine harness, not the other that is upside down) and the ECU connector that the throttle body is wired to. Visual inspection of H42-2 and the ECU connector looked ok - no obvious excessive pin distortion/dislocation, pretty clean.

A post I found after I really nailed down the symptom said the engine wiring harness may need to be rewired between the throttle body and ECU. Before I track down a replacement harness, I'd like to get some opinions about how to proceed. BTW, I have new plugs to put in - NGK, but they have a flat center electrode rather than the point on the current plugs so I decided to hold off replacing to make only one change at a time.

Any thoughts on next steps?

Thanks,
Ethan
