Hey folks, I had my mechanic replace the fuel pump (including the level sensor). That did not fix it. So, I brought the gauge cluster to BBA remanufacturing to replace all the stepper motors. That changed the position of the gauge, but did not solve it. Now it maxes out at 5/8 tank, and stays put, and drops fast to zero once close to empty. I went to Saab dealer, they could not find a Tech 2 option to "run the gauge" up to full, half, and empty to test the gauge response. They took a screen shot of the Tech2 Fuel Level Screen for me it reads:
Fuel Level (ECM) = 48.5 Litres
Fuel Level (Bus from ECM) = 28 Litres
Fuel Level to Gauge = 28.1 Litres
Fuel Level Sensor = 2.3 V
Fuel Level Sensor Secondary = 0.0 V
When I had my mechanic drop the tank, and replace the pump and sender, I wish he knew to replace the secondary level sensor, which is in XWD cars (I was now told). I fault him for not knowing, and may never use him again. So, now I am wondering - does this info tell me that the issue is definitely the secondary sensor? Could it be the wire from the sensor to the ECM? Could it be the ECM mis-understanding the secondary sensor? I hate chasing an issue, and don't want to spend any more money (e.g. dropping the tank) and fail again. Thanks for reading along.
