This is a high tech question that most of us can't answer if you are not there with the car and can read the codes that is generated and check the bus system and how it communicates with the other modules.
It is also a rare problem since I have not seen or heard about a 4 cyl engine having problems with the ABS/ESP module. I have seen several V6 engines having problems with the ABS/ESP module but that generated a starting problem.
I see Saab have 5 of the 4 cyl ABS modules in stock but the V6 one is on back order.
I don't know the shop you mention but I assume it is a Saab specialist since this kind of work takes a higher level of scan tools and security access to program the module back to car.
If the module is not properly programmed back to car, it will not communicate with CIM.
