I've read through the posts here and have seen some discussion about stuck brake pistons. I have a stuck piston on the passenger side rear. Worked on these yesterday. Driver side was no real problem. Passenger side was a bear. I never could get the piston down more than 1/8 of a turn. I was using the Harbor Freight tool that fits the piston and caliper well.
It was so difficult to do with the caliper detached for the car. Is there some trick like keeping it attached with one caliper bolt?
The piston just refused to turn - I DID NOT think to crack the bleed valve, I usually just loosen the fill cap on the master cylinder.
Because of a time constraint i was forced to put used pads on with the new rotor. Pads were worn about half way down and just barely fit over the new rotor.
I'd like to get these new pads on with new rotor quickly. Any suggestions for loosening the piston? What's the thinking on the one sharp hammer tap on the piston.
Also these caliper bolts were tight. Should I used Loctite or similar on these bolts? Like from the tip up about 3/8"?
Thanks!
