Even with a hands-free kit, the steering wheel phone button don't do anything.
'04s had OnStar as an option (or maybe as part of a package--you're lucky if your doesn't have it). You'll know if you have the buttons for that next to the cupholder. If not, Arc and Aeros are pre-wired for a hands-free kit (think Parrott or older Motorola HF setup); one can buy an integration harness (plenty of UK eBay sellers) to mate to a Bluetooth kit.
If pre-wired (again, Arc and Aero are), then the connector's clipped to the side of the passenger side console (you'll need to pull the side cover to get at it). Some hands-free BT kits also have AD2P capability (for streaming audio). One can splice that into the Aux-in jack wiring if you already have that.
