many things. #1 is air in the system. Pressure bleeding is the only safe way to bleed brakes. #2 is mechanical fault, i.e. missing spring clips, separating brake pads and warped rotors are the main culprits. Did you ask the tech about the soft brakes?
Is the car a V6 or a 4 cylinder? Do you have another like car to compare?
Lots of choices before throwing parts at it.
