Induction Air Pipe - Saabnet.com Bulletin Board
Pretty sure what you are looking at is the induction air pipe from the inter-cooler to the engine. Thing this is the one to the right of the rad standing in front of the car. Looks like a big coolant hose.
The top rad hose is smaller and on the left hand side tucked under the front top plate and the plastic engine cover.
And you are right the water pump is a pain to change or expensive to have someone else do it. On this car (assuming a 2.0L) it is to the left between the engine and the firewall. Very odd location ... but so is the one in a C900. You'll see coolant on the subframe and probably on the ground if it is leaking. Mine barfed a lot of coolant intermittently but under high load. Did not leak much day to day.
