I have a 2009 9-3 Sportcombi(non-Aero version), that I bought new back in May 2009.
It has, for the most part, been very dependable. Here is a list some of of the problems i've had:
The most expensive occurred a few months ago. All four of my coil springs were broken. The cost to replace was about $1700. I don't blame Saab for this. It's the climate I live in - Cleveland Ohio. I'm sure that it's the road salt used in the winter plus the humidity that caused it.
The most annoying nusiance problem i've had was a clip on the the left-side trim of the driver's seat that has broken four times. The first three times, the dealer replaced it under warranty/good-will. Each time it lasted only a few months. The fourth time, I paid for it (about $90), and it been fine ever since (about a year now). I guess you get what you pay for! Lousy design if you ask me!
Other issues were: both front window regulators breaking; the fuel sender gauge in the gas tank needing to be replaced - It would show an empty tank after a fill-up until I used about 1/4 tank, then it was OK; my OnStar unit needed to be replaced under warranty; My shift knob fell off and had to be re-glued (silly, but was handled as a warranty item).
Also, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, the leather-covered seats are horrible. My driver's seat has several tears along the seams. I've decided not to fix them yet - don't want to spend the money. EEuroparts does have replacement skins.
Knock on wood, the engine and drive train are solid after 60K miles.
If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely buy another 9-3 Combi.
Mike.
