Anders--hopefully you are still out there looking at this thread--
Today (Sunday) we started and drove the car to go shopping. It would not restart when we returned. No "unlocking" sound in the steering column and the key would not turn, and had Steering Lock message displayed on SID. I disconnected/reconnected battery briefly, restarted car and drove home.
A few hours later, I went back to the car to test its behavior: I inserted the key, heard a distinct unlocking sound, but could not turn the key, and the Steering Lock msg. was displayed on SID. After "resetting" the battery, I was able to insert, turn key, and start engine, but DID NOT hear unlocking sound, and NO message displayed on SID. Now the car will restart multiple times, but there is no SCL unlocking sound whenever the key is inserted in the ISM. (To compare, with my 2008 9-3, I hear the SCL disengage each time the key is inserted).
Does any of this point to ISM, SCL, CIM?
