Hello All,
The other issue I am having involves a possessed radio. The car is an 03 9-3 Linear with the basic radio/cd package (no 6 disk or AUX option and still running great after 418k miles). The symptoms are as follows, when I start her up cold the radio is essentially static or is on some random station. The buttons work but it kind of plays whatever frequency it wants (for instance I can click my preset of 103.5 but I can tell it will be on 94.1 or something like that. Further, it will somewhat play the random frequency for a little while then go to static because it is presumably going to a frequency with no signal. The kicker is after driving her for 30 minutes to an hour it will start working correctly again. This has gone on for a year or so progressively getting worse so I am at wit's end.
Is this a bad connection? I ask because I typically leave the knob on heat with sunroof open so the dash does heat up over time which seems to help. I don't believe it is the amp because the speakers work fine (the coheed and cambria cd that has been stuck in the cd player for maybe a decade still plays great and the turn signals come through the speaker). So, what are my options? Anyone think it is worth it to yank the radio and jiggle some wires and hope for the best or does the fact the tuner has a mind of its own lead one to believe the internals of the radio are fried?
Also, if getting a new radio is recommended, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty OCD so I need the radio controls to work along with the stations to show on the screen, do aftermarkets work with that or do I need OEM? It also needs to hide neatly behind the dash like the factory.
My last question of curiosity is do those factory radios have an input option to fit in a bluetooth hands free system? I've always wondered by my steering wheel has a phone button and person talking. Guess it is there to simply look cool because I have yet to ascertain the functionality.
Best,
BenR
