I suspect the ECM for each model had the same manufacturer, but I don't know.
What I know about electronics tells me that if put an electronic module in an environment of 150degC+ you have to expect it to die a premature death. In the 9000 they had the common sense to keep it behind the false bulkhead. At first glance it looked to me like the ECM was on the engine in the 2.0T, but if it's on the intake manifold that's probably not much cooler (when I read your first post saying the V6 had it on the intake manifold, for some reason I was picturing a cold air intake pipe.)
Can you please clarify, is removal of the ECM on the V6 something you could do at the side of the road with a few tools? Or is buried?
Will the failure of the ESP/ABS computer cause a no-run condition, or just disable those functions?
