I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the first 9-3 Sport Sedan and the location of that ECM. But I think it is a GM thing.
It's a hidden bolt under the V6 ECM that is hard to reach and sensitive plastic pipes to remove so it doesn't make sense to replace it on the road. Than you would have to train on replacing fuel pump as well since they fail more often on the V6.
There is also a high risk of bending the pins on ECM when reinstalling the two harness connectors.
The ESP/ABS fails in that it refuse to crank over the engine when hot. If you have gotten engine started, you can drive until you shut off next time.
If you wiggle and bend the harness on top of ESP/ABS module you might wake it up.
