All I can think of is generalities that apply to most any car. Sure, once in awhile but done excessively just contributes to the engine/drivetrain wearing out just a little bit faster. With the ECU's ability to "learn" the drivers behavior, maybe there's another reason to do that once in awhile.
During break-in, I try to run the whole spectrum of RPM just to even out the wear on the cylinder walls. Rod-stretch and piston-wobble frequency and all that stuff. Maybe that's just obsolete thinking, but with those components getting lighter (for both performance and economic reasons) I don't think the underlying physics is any different than it was 50 or 100 years ago.
