The key's plastic body has a RF device that talks to an antenna under the plastic that surrounds the key lock. The key plastic can be openned up and the transmitter etc from the key that the vehilcle talks to now can have its metal key removed and the old key metal part put in there. Now you can drive and the dealer can marry your other old key to the TWICE. The TWICE can only have 4 key fobs married to it, then thats it. I think that when you turn on the ignition and wait, the LED on the top of the dash will flash out the number of keys that have been programmed thus far.
To get going now, you may be able to remove the battery from the old key, and tie the new key close to it. Then use the old key and the vehicle will talk to the new key that is not in the lock. Now you can drive to the dealer and they can do the swap of the metal part of the old key to the new TWICE's good key body. If removing the battery is a pain, suggest that you wrap the old key's plastic body in aluminum foil and see if that gets it out of the game so the new key can talk RF.
So if you want two working keys, you must go to the dealer.
