Update on used V6 DICs from eBay Posted by billherbst [Email] (#2137) [Profile/Gallery] (more from billherbst) on Tue, 11 Apr 2006 14:38:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Today UPS delivered the box of two used V6 DICs I purchased last week from eBay (for $75 plus shipping). I bought them to carry in my '99 9-5 SE SportWagon as insurance against catastrophic failure of my 80K-mile-old original DICs. No problems at all so far, but, as everyone here knows, the DICs/IDMs won't last forever, and those of us with 1999 model year 9-5 have been stiffed on the recall.
Guess what? The rocket scientists who sold me the DICs just stuck both of them in a flimsy cardboard box with no packing materials at all. No bubble wrap, no newspaper wrapping, no padding of any kind. Nada.
As a result, the DICs bounced violently against each other in the box during shipping and arrived, well, DESTROYED. The plastic housings for one coil of each cassette are broken off at the base. Shattered, actually. So they're useless.
I emailed the seller immediately and was polite in explaining the situation, but I'll probably have to ship back the box with broken DICs just to prove that I'm not scamming them. Grrrr.
So, my gamble (to buy two new DICs from eEuroparts for $330 or used on eBay for $75?) is not paying off so far.
This hassle doesn't mean that the eBay sellers are bad folks, just careless. But it does make one wonder about people who would toss complicated and delicate parts assemblies into a box and ship them with no padding at all.
I asked for a refund. Caveat Emptor.
And so it goes... I'll post later about what transpires next.
