Can't agree with some of your comments. There are equal disparities in driving skills and equipment in Europe and there is usually less space. One post mentioned the problems of car commuting in the USA - they should try the commute in London, Paris, Rome, Hamburg - done all of them and a few more and South West Connecticut to NYC is often easier. As for fatalities in Germany, the statistic as quoted is worthless. It didn't compare the overall fatality rate in Germany versus USA and it didn't give the fatality rate & percentage for USA. Drivers in Europe are generally MORE attentive to the traffic around them - that's a significant difference and reflects on the poor driver ed programs in USA. IMHO
