I've been waiting for a nice weekend day with some good snow to occur here in the Twin Cities. Finally it did and off I went to a nearby parking lot for some (unscientific) testing of how much difference the Nordfrost II's made over the standard rubber on my 00 9-5 Aero. Unfortunately the 900 was in the shop otehrwise I'd have tested that with my Blizzak MZ-02's.

First test, standard rubber all around. Conditions: about 3" of snow on top of packed snow. We marked where the front wheel was and proceeded to set the speed warning at 20mph. I accelerated to 20 and dropped a glove out the front window to mark 20mph. I immidiately slammed on the brakes and let the ABS to it's thing. We then marked where the front wheel stopped.

Following that baseline, we swapped tires and put on the Gislaved's. We drove the car to the same starting spot but shifted over about 10 ft so that I wasn't driving the same track. Again, accelerated to 20, dropped glove out window and hit the brakes.

Result: Amazing. We didn't have real measuring equipment with us (maybe next year) but I'd guess the drop in stopping distances was about 1/3 or a little more. The drop in distance required to hit 20 dropped similarly. Fantastic. I wish I could have tested the 900 at the same time. Oh well.

Next year, a buddy and I plan to bring all 3 of our cars and snow tires then invite all our non-believer friends for a demonstration.

Anyway, the 9-5 now rocks in the snow.
