It's all 9-5s... Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Fri, 26 Sep 2008 06:47:07 In Reply to: Re: Radio wiring diagram for 2001 9-5?, GaryJ, Thu, 25 Sep 2008 12:20:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
ALL 9-5s from 1998-2005 have the Saab factory radio "married" to the car. The radio checks in on the data bus, and verifies the stored information with the VIN of the car it is in. If it all matches up, you get sound. The radio must be "divorced" from the donor car, and "married" to the receiving car, with a Tech 2 performing the ceremonies. There is no way to "annul" the wedding without a Tech 2, nor the donor car.
In theory, if you have the VIN of the donor car, one could reset the VIN of the receiving car to that of the donor car, divorce the radio, reset the car's VIN to the proper number (if you don't nothing else will work...), then marry them up. That's the theory, and is a last-ditch effort.
Also, the trunk-mounted CD changer is married to the car as well, separately from the radio.
