I've worked in an automotive machine shop for the past 8 years. And just as a bit of advice. Stay away from the v6 it is used in cadillac catera's and saturns vue and the saabs. My experience of this engine it that it is VERY expensive to repair from timing failure. It bends every valve usually and breaks every guide in the head which makes a VERY expensive parts list and labor repair and not a quick turn around to complete inturn making the owner wait while driving a rental or loaner auto. I know proper maintenance limits this failure in timing but some have been with all proper maintenance done. As for a standard 2.3 repair? I've had maybe three and they were just blown head gaskets and even though the cars where high mileage the heads were still in amazing condition.
As a machinist I can't give a postive remark for the 3.0l v6 smooth? maybe but reliable? NO WAY.
