but I believe you turn the plug 1/4 turn then it pulls straight out. I believe there is a little catch or some such that prevents it from falling out. When I had my radiator out AI saw it. It may take a little looking with a mirror to see the catch.
The plug has two little bumps or ears on it that engage a spiral ramp, like a tail light bulb. I think there is a plastic catch in the ramp that prevents the ears from coming straight out.
The other thought would be to buy the replacement and examine the replacement part. This may give you a clue how it comes out.
FWIW, I also have a socket with a slot that I use to open it.
