I agree with Coky...(more) Posted by BradW [Email] (#3273) [Profile/Gallery] (more from BradW) on Tue, 9 Jan 2001 15:28:31 In Reply to: Hood protectors are they useful?, davec, Tue, 9 Jan 2001 01:07:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I bought the clear version of the hood protector in Feb 99 when I bought my 99 9-5 new. Kept it on for a month, maybe two, and then took it off. I was disgusted by how quickly scum, dirt, haze, debris, whatever built up under the thing. Since my 9-5 is white, it really looked awful.
My specific comments:
1) Maybe if you have a darker color car, or get a smoke-tinted protector(is one available? I don't know), it would look better. I would not recommend the clear version no matter what color car, because the dirt that collects underneath will make your car look dirty within a few miles.
2) Since there are a couple of vents in the front, I would not recommend this design to anyone doing a lot of winter driving where there is salt on the road. The salty, slushy liquid will get underneath the protector and slowly but surely start eating clearcoat. Since it dries so quickly, just rinsing underneath the protector will not remove the salt residue, so you will have to remove the procector EVERY TIME you wash to make sure you get all of the scum cleaned off. I can't begin to describe how big a pain in the a$$ that would be.
Sorry for the bad review, but I calls 'em like I sees 'em. Good luck.
