front brake job prep
Posted by jeff in MD (# 688) (more from jeff in MD) on Sat, 23 Jul 2011 08:21:41

I received a pair of ATE front rotors and Akebono pads from eEuro yesterday. Today I'm going to take off the wheels and assess the situation with the set screws and get some liquid wrench in the bolt holes and on the back side of the rotor at the hub. I may not get around to doing the job for a couple weeks but figure this will be good prep.

The rotors did not come with new set screws. If the old ones are destroyed during removal (a possibility - they've been on for 8 years, 151k miles) do I actually need new ones? Or will the new rotors stay in place well enough without while finishing the reassembly? If I do need them, is it possible to find them at a regular store vs. ordering online? Thanks,

Jeff

FWIW, if anyone is interested in doing an entirely non-Chinese brake job, the ATE (pronounced Ah-Tay apparently) rotors are made in Germany and the Akebono pads are made in the USA.
