FIXED!!
Yes, you guys had it right. Basics, basics. Bad connection between the cables and the positive battery connector.
It appears, when my girlfriend brought her car in last year (Sears, Fairfax Cty, VA) instead of addressing an obvious cable issue, they covered the corrosion (positive terminal) with some plastic stuff and replaced the existing DieHard. Which was fairly fresh but they somehow got her for another $ 100. Pro-rating gone bad I guess.
So today when I was cleaning and inspecting the connections (as ya'll suggested) a puff of white powder came out from under this layer of plastic. I stripped it away. The cables where full of corrosion. Shame on me - I took the "pro" looking treatment as an indication this fellow had looked after the connection but I can't see now how he could have. I know better than that.
Thanks for keeping me looking in the right direction. Sorry I took so much time seeing what was right there in front of me.
Everything all back to right; no codes, no CEL, fast crank, fast start, all accessories full normal.
I'll have to drive it awhile to see if the Security warning comes back on (which you simply clear) as it has for years but I'm feeling a lot better now.
Thanks to all!!
