Coolant tank overflowing

My expansion tank is swelling up with coolant when hot (100 degrees yesterday). I would assume over pressure from HG but I replaced the HG a year ago for a slight weep in #4 cyl. All was good.

I swapped out my hoses, t-stat and bypass valve a month ago and noticed this after driving so I assumed there was air in the system. Did the cap off till warm trick a couple of times. All seemed good, but once and awhile it's full to the brim when hot (when cold it's just below the middle line).

Is air in the coolant system an issue? Never heard about it before on 9-5's.
