IME the middle part has always lasted longer than the end part (said experience going all the way back to the long departed and unlamented Simca collection, and includes 99s, C900s, 9000s, and 9-5s.) Not to mention any non-stainless exhaust going more than 4 or 5 years. Whatever your driving and maintenance habits, do stick with them.

As for me, the system was in such questionable condition last year that I replaced all the cat-back components, second time for the rear and center mufflers. In both cases, the center was less ragged than the rear. 2002 Aero, 90,000 miles at the time.
