Tranny issue??

Ok so I bought this car at an auction 2003 9-5 Liner. I'm having an issue with the car & hoping someone on here has had the same experiences & can help. When I put the car in drive, drive does not engage right away & a few seconds later there is a loud "clunk" type noise & a jerk (almost as if you have been rear ended lightly)before it engages into drive. Driving it is fine & shifts fine. The car is currently at a Saab mechanic shop & they added ATF & some kind of additive but the car is still having the same issue & they can not tell me if it will go away or not. They checked all the shift linkage & nothing is broken. With this possible tranny problem I'm not really wanting to keep the car. Has anyone had this same problem???
