Just did this job and glad I did. OK, it's no walk in the park, but still, it's not that bad.
First read this:

Second, yes you really do need to remove the bottom stud from the turbo but it's not that bad - use the double-nut method as explained earlier or vice grips and plenty of penetrating oil.
Third, releasing the exhaust from the rubber hangers is easy if you find and remove the spring clips mounted on back side (toward the rear of the car) of the rubbers (but be prepared to support the exhaust with a wood block of some sort if you've raised the car far off the ground).
Third, no the pan does not fall right off when you remove all the bolts. You'll need to drop it a bit, push it towards the passenger side of the car, and the drop it some more. At this point you'll probably need to pry it a bit on the transmission side to clear the trans. But it will come.
